It's more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces, so your teeth and gums look great after orthodontic treatment. If you do not brush properly or regularly enough, plaque can build-up around the braces, bands and wires and can cause permanent white scars or spots on your teeth. Therefore, diligent and proper care of your teeth and appliances is vital during orthodontic treatment. Please take a few minutes to view our video that discusses how to take care of your teeth and braces during orthodontic treatment and the importance of patient cooperation.
Using a dry brush with a small amount of toothpaste place bristles where gums and teeth meet.
For 10 seconds on each tooth use circular, vibrating motions around the gum lines.
Every tooth of both arches should be brushed slowly.
Brush the lower teeth from the gum line up and the upper teeth from the gum line down. Brush the roof of your mouth and your tongue too!
Carefully thread unwaxed floss between braces and wire. You may find a floss threader helpful.
Carefully floss around the braces.
